A university town works differently. People are renting, driving here from somewhere else, insured on a policy at a different address, and often gone by summer.

A town that empties and refills every year

Serving Oxford and the surrounding Butler County area from our nearby Hamilton office.

Oxford is a university town, and that changes the practical shape of a claim more than people expect.

The person who was hurt may be insured on a parent’s policy in another state. The driver who caused it may have been visiting for a weekend and may not live within anywhere near the road it happened on. The address on the paperwork may be a rental that nobody is living in eight weeks later, and the crucial witness may have graduated and moved.

None of that stops a claim, but all of it gets harder the longer it is left. Names, numbers and photographs taken in the first week are worth more here than almost anywhere, because the people in them disperse on a schedule.

The town also empties and refills on the academic calendar, which changes who is on the roads, and a great deal of the work in Oxford is done by people employed by the university, by the businesses around it, and by the trades that keep both running.

Claims in Oxford

Oxford’s population is shaped by Miami University, which gives the town an academic and seasonal profile that almost nowhere else in the county has. Numbers rise and fall with term, a large share of residents are renting, and both drivers and witnesses are often here temporarily.

The venue is unaffected by any of that: Oxford is in Butler County, and claims are heard at the Butler County Court of Common Pleas at 315 High Street in Hamilton, inside the Government Services Center.

The seasonal turnover is precisely why the deadline deserves attention here. Ohio generally allows two years from the date a personal injury claim arises (Ohio Revised Code § 2305.10), but the people who saw what happened may be gone within months. General information rather than advice about your case.

Casper, Casper & Casper were all very professional when I had to speak with them and they made me feel just as important as everyone else's case. They helped me tremendously in a reasonable amount of time. I also was impressed how they get right to the point, no beating around the bush, I appreciate that.

Questions

Questions from Oxford

General information, not legal advice. Every case turns on its own facts. The only way to know where yours stands is to have someone look at it.

I am a student here but my insurance is in another state.

That is normal and it is workable. Which policies apply depends on whose vehicle it was, who you live with and how the policy is written, so bring the declarations page rather than guessing from memory. An out-of-state policy does not put a crash in Ohio beyond reach.

The other driver was only visiting.

Then getting the details early matters more than usual, because tracing somebody afterwards is slower and sometimes impossible. Their insurer, not their address, is what the claim runs against, so the policy information is the thing to secure first.

I am moving away at the end of term. Can I still do this?

Yes. A claim does not require you to stay in the county, and a Social Security Disability claim does not require you to be in Ohio at all. Tell us where you will be and when, so nothing needs chasing to an address you have left.
